Retina Consultants of Texas (RCTX) is seeking an Ocular Oncology Nurse to join our innovative team with the mission of Fighting Blindness For The World To See. This position will function as the liaison between the patient and the patient care plan. This role will manage the patient care plan by counseling and educating patients regarding surgeries, treatment plans, pre- and post-op care, and treatment side effects.
This role will be empathetic to the patients’ needs and effectively communicate to those involved in the patient care plan. This position will travel to the following clinics: Bellaire, Katy, Woodlands, and Medical Center.
Candidates must be able to travel to various clinics to meet the needs of the patients and providers, and support the Clinic hours of Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:30am-6:30pm. Schedules are provided weekly and are based on the provider's clinic, patient and surgery schedules. Clinic staff are provided with the opportunity for weekend hours if available.

Responsibilities
- Provides counseling to patients at the time of diagnosis both in person and virtually
- Answer patient inquiries by all forms of communication
- Initiate orders on newly diagnosed patients to include PET/CT scan or MRI
- Assist Physician with completing peer to peer reviews
- Answer patient question regarding Plaque surgery to include pre-op, post-op, pain management, and outcomes
- Performs post-op examinations and review post-op care
- Track and follow up on lab, pathology, imaging results and provide information to Physician and update internal communication channels as directed
- Manage referral process
- Effectively communicate with all practitioners involved in patient care plan
- Effectively communicate with all surgery sites to align with patient care plan
- Coordinate treatment plans specific to disease process
- Educating patients on the side effects of chemotherapy and help manage possible side effects
- Assist oncology team with managing clinic flow
- Completes other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Skills/Competencies:
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Demonstrated empathy to patients and patient care plan
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced clinic environment
- Ability to complete charting as required
- Working knowledge of oncology and patient diagnosis
- Working knowledge of insurance and billing terminology
- Ability to work well in a team setting
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Ability to raise concerns, ask questions, or take partners as needed
- Ability to execute tasks in multiple computer systems to include Word, Teams, EMR, Excel, patient scheduling software
- Bilingual preferred
Education Requirements
- Graduate of an LVN, ADN, or BSN program
Experience Requirements:
- 1 to 3 years of experience as a nurse in a hospital or clinic setting
- Experience in Oncology preferred
Licenses and Certification
- LVN or RN license in the state of Texas
- CPR certification
